How many questions is the PSI written exam?+
In most states, about 100 scored multiple-choice questions, and some states add 10–25 unscored pretest questions mixed in, so don't panic if the count looks higher. Your state's PSI candidate information bulletin lists the exact number and time limit; we link it inside your state module.
What score do I need to pass?+
Most states set the cut score between 70% and 75%. That means on a 100-question exam you can miss 25–30 questions and still pass, which is why studying the heavily weighted topics first matters more than memorizing everything. The study guide lists each state's exact passing score.
What's on the practical exam?+
Typically: workstation setup and infection control, a haircut, chemical services performed as mock applications, and thermal or wet styling; all on a mannequin, all timed, with proctors watching your sanitation habits the whole way. Required services and kit contents vary by state, so we keep a checklist for each.
Are these questions the real exam questions?+
No, and be wary of anyone who claims otherwise. Selling actual PSI exam content is illegal and can get licenses revoked.
